NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY ACT
NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY ACT
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requires that any major federal action that may affect the environment must go through a specific process, through which agencies must analyze the effects of their proposed action and consider less harmful alternatives. And, agencies must provide the public with an opportunity to speak up. While this law is only procedural, it is a key way that the public can participate in environmental decision-making. Violations of NEPA are frequently grounds for environmental lawsuits, allowing groups to challenge harmful projects for not adequately following this crucial process.
The Trump administration is currently trying to chip away at NEPA by limiting what types of projects require this public process. BUT, you can tell the Forest Service why this is a bad idea until August 26th.
This collection was designed to raise awareness about important environmental laws while giving more back to groups that use these laws to protect the environment. 20% of sales go to grassroots environmental organizations.
